Dungeon Survival Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Skill Acquisition 「Anyway, let's check the results of that fight.」 Back at the terminal, I finally let out a breath of relief. This probably wasn't a safe zone exactly. But being able to duck back into my apartment whenever I wanted was good for my peace of mind. At least, there hadn't been a single case of a monster following someone through the gate into the real world. My hands had finally stopped shaking. I touched the terminal and checked my Status first. Not that I'd leveled up or anything. What I actually wanted to see was my current EP. ────── EP Owned: 2 ────── 「Ha, it went up.」 The number had been zero just moments ago. Confirming it had really gone up, even if it was only by two, I felt a grin at my mouth without meaning to. Only two points. But two points all the same. By my math, killing five Goblins would be enough to level up. 「...Four more to go, then.」 The thought alone was enough to weigh on me a little. Maybe it wouldn't feel this way ...

Dungeon Survival Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Level Up After that, it took a good two hours but I killed five Goblins. Bottom line, learning Ambush had been the right call. Just like on my first dive, I made my way through the Dungeon slowly, mapping as I went. Doing that naturally kept my footsteps quiet. And in a Dungeon with no other sound sources to speak of, the enemy's footsteps became the only noise around. Once I caught onto that, I'd lie in wait at a crossroads or a bend and land the first hit the instant we crossed paths. The Goblins would flinch, plain as day. With the damage boost from Ambush, it seemed like I could finally chip all the way through a Goblin's HP. And a hit to the head clearly started slowing its movements. After that, finishing off a staggering Goblin was just simple work. Of course, it didn't all go smoothly. Just once, I ran into a pair of them. Ambush took one out of commission. But I let the other one get a counterattack in. Even so, after ambushing so many Goblins by th...

Dungeon Survival Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Combat After receiving what passed for encouragement from the terminal, I took a deep breath and turned to face the dungeon corridor again. Stone floor. Stone walls. Stone ceiling. A perfectly square corridor stretched straight ahead as far as I could see. From everything I'd gathered beforehand, I knew powerful monsters didn't appear on a dungeon's first floor. The only confirmed sightings had been animal-types like rabbits and dogs and small humanoid monsters that were classic goblins through and through. I hadn't heard any reports of slimes, which made me wonder if the physically-immune, terrifying variety were lurking deeper down, biding their time. That said, dungeons had only just appeared. There was far too little data to draw any real conclusions. Any so-called rules were barely rules at all. I gripped the metal bat I'd brought and steadied myself. I hadn't been able to get my hands on anything resembling a ranged weapon and there weren't...

Employment Ice Age of the Dead Chapter 5

Chapter 5: The Collection Continues 「From now on, food and supplies may never be transported here from overseas or other regions again. And losing electricity means no more refrigeration or freezing. Any perishables and frozen food that can't be collected in time will thaw out and rot before anyone can use it. Let me see...」 Using a map I'd found in a bookstore, I was working through the local cold-storage warehouses and collecting refrigerated and frozen goods from shops. The silver sword I'd been able to equip after leveling up was certainly handy. Silver equipment was effective against not just vampires but weaker undead too. Even the weakest zombies, when cut apart, would collapse in a pale blue flame without me spending any mana. And again, only bones were left. 「Who knows when the bones of the zombies I've defeated will rise as Skeletons... I'll level up as much as I can before then.」 Skeletons were stronger than zombies. I had to level up enough to handle th...

Employment Ice Age of the Dead Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Scavenging 「Aaaargh!」 「Uuurgh!」 「Kayuumaaa…」 「It's not even open yet, so maybe that one's an employee?」 In order to secure daily necessities, I ran toward the shopping mall near my apartment. Along the way, I collected goods from the shops and convenience stores I passed… Technically that's theft but it's an emergency, so consider this my apology in advance… Then I smashed open the still-closed shopping mall's front entrance with my bronze sword and stepped inside, only to be attacked by dozens of zombies. I swung my sword, took the zombies' heads off and burned their bodies away with 『Heal』. Just taking their heads off alone wasn't enough to actually defeat a zombie. It earned me no experience either so my level wouldn't go up. I wouldn't get any magic stones that way either. As much of a hassle as it was to finish them off properly, I had no choice. 「And don't forget to refill my mana too…」 I made sure to collect the magic stones fr...

Employment Ice Age of the Dead Chapter 3

Chapter 3: FIRE → Zombies Appear 「Ngh… where am I?」 How long had I been unconscious? When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on the futon in my room, back in my run-down apartment. 「…Yeah, this is definitely safe…」 The moment I got up, my body felt a little heavier than before… or so it seemed. But when I hurried to check the bathroom mirror, my skin was still smooth and I didn't look like I'd aged five years. 「What's going on here?」 Had I gone back to my old body, the usual near-fifty one, now that I was back in my original world? No, wait, the muscle I'd built up hadn't withered at all and my skin was still in good shape. I quickly checked my status… I wasn't sure it would even work in this world, but when I pulled up my status screen, my level had somehow reset to 1. 「Level 1 again… does that mean I've gotten weaker?」 Maybe it was from five years of training in the other world, but I looked younger than before I'd been summoned and felt in perfec...

Magic Scavenger Part 1 Chapter 12

Chapter 12: Before Dawn "Do you know why I was faster than that man and faster than you too?" "Nuh-uh." "Well, that's because..." Because of the mysterious man's surprise attack, half the mercenaries had joined in on the interrogation. The remaining half were supposed to sleep inside the mercenaries' tent, for the safety of the battlefield-scavenger kids but only Kanata, the one who'd actually tried to deal with the sudden trouble himself, ended up waiting alongside Griare for the interrogation to finish. Griare leaned her face in close to Kanata's and spoke to him in a low murmur. "Um, so it's about concentrating mana in whatever part you specifically want to reinforce...?" "That's right. Just now, I concentrated it in both legs to boost my speed. It's easy to say but hard to actually do. If you're not used to extremely reinforced muscle strength, you will lose your balance. If your mana manipulation isn...

Dungeon Gacha Life Chapter 30

Chapter 30: Summer Isn't Over Yet A week had passed since I beat the Upper Levels' boss, the Minotaur. As planned, I'd gone on that pool date with Shimotsuki-san the other day. A white bikini with a pale yellow pareo. I'll just say her fair skin was dazzling and leave it at that. With Lapis there too, there was never any awkward silence and the three of us just genuinely enjoyed the pool. Which also meant nothing romantic happened but I'll hold out hoping for it down the road. Also, Lapis turned out to be a huge hit with the other guests and people were even taking pictures of her. In the end, I ended up buying a few 1/6-scale doll swimsuits for Lapis. Out of those, we picked the one she liked, adjusted the sizing before cutting some openings for her wings and somehow made it work in time. Thanks to that, she'd been in a great mood ever since. And so, today, having wrapped up a satisfying summer vacation. I was visiting Hachioji Dungeon Guild for the first time...

Dungeon Gacha Life Chapter 29

Chapter 29: There Is No Gacha God After that, same as always, I took a taxi home. Now I was lying on the couch, catching my breath. In the end, after all that, Shimotsuki-san had accepted the invitation. A swimsuit date. Hell yeah. "Hey, Lapis, think you could catch a cold that day?" "Don't try to leave me out!!" Just a joke. About half of it. "Some of your real feelings are mixed in there too!?" Lapis was once again thunderstruck. Well, no doubt it'd be more fun with her along too. "Looking forward to it." Those words slipped out on their own. Apparently I was in pretty high spirits. At the latest, I'd need to go buy a swimsuit tomorrow. I hadn't been to a pool since my gym class in high school. "Now that I think about it..." After thinking about it, suddenly it hit me all at once. What was Lapis supposed to wear? "You don't have a swimsuit or anything, do you?" "Ah... now that you mention it......

Dungeon Gacha Life Chapter 28

Chapter 28: My C-Rank Offer and a Piece of Swimsuit After defeating the Minotaur a second time, we used the teleportation magic circle on Floor 21 to head back to Floor 1. The three of them hadn't cleared the boss fight but apparently that was still enough to pass through. It was only the C-Rank certification that required turning in the "Minotaur's Nose Ring" as proof of a solo kill. Figuring I might as well so I'd brought the three of them with me to the lobby. I had to explain the rescue anyway. "I'm back, Shimotsuki-san." "...Welcome back, Suzukaze-kun." When I spoke up, Shimotsuki-san looked past me and tilted her head. "Mukai-san and the others are with you too. Did something happen?" I was trying to figure out how to explain the three of them when Shimotsuki-san said Mukai-san's name herself. So they already knew each other. That'd make this quicker, then. "Yeah, actually..." I explained the whole thing: ...
